Marvel fanboys (present company included) collectively geeked out over a brief Easter Egg in the first season of Daredevil. That Greek girl Matt dated in college?! We gotcha, Netflix.
“The Greek girl” was given a name today, as well as a face, as Marvel announced that Elodie Yung will be portraying the assassin Elektra in the second season of the television show. Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television and executive producer on the show, commented on the decision, saying:
After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity. Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.
The French-Cambodian actress is an excellent choice for the part. With roles in G.I. Joe: Retaliation and District 13: Ultimatum, as well as over ten years of martial arts experience, Yung certainly has the credentials to play the iconic character.
Between Kingpin, The Punisher, and Elektra, the devil of Hell’s Kitchen will certainly have his hands full in the next season.
